CD-ROM / DVD-ROM |
|
The CD-ROM has advanced quite a way since it arrival as been superceded by
the DVD, so you are more likely to put a DVD-ROM in your pc than a CD-ROM.
the DVD-ROM with the aid of some DVD software you can watch DVD movies on
your PC. You also are able to copy no protected media for back up purposes using a DVD-Rewriter disk and drive. This type of drive is commonly known as a DVD-RW, with one of these drive you are able to back-up 4.7 gigabytes of data from your pc onto one disc, as apposed to the 750 megabytes of a CD-RW, as you can see there has been some major improvements made to this media. On the rear side of a IDE drive you will find a connector with 40 pins you will also find 6 pins for selecting how the drive should be seen by the motherboard for example as a master drive MA as secondary drive SL or let the motherboard decide by using the option SC. You will also find a 4 pin plug for connecting the very thin lead that supplied with the CD-ROM drive to the motherboard. Finally you have a 4 pin power plug, this is plugged into the cases power leads/plugs. Please note that the red stripe the drive cable should match with pin 1 on the motherboard connector and pin 1 on the back of the drive.
