Hard Drive |
|
There are are several types of hard drive available these are, IDE, SATA and
SCSI, providing the motherboard you have
chosen support both IDE and SATA as apposed to just IDE then you have the
choice to purchase one or the other. As for SCSI drives, these tend to be a
little more expensive and you normally need to buy either a motherboard
with a specific support for SCSI or buy a controller card that matches the
SCSI drive. As a first time builder I suggest you steer away from SCSI and buy an IDE or check to see if your motherboard will support SATA drives and buy one of them the choice is your. On the rear side of a IDE drive you will find a connector with 40 pins you will also find 6 pins for selecting how the drive should be seen by the motherboard for example as a master drive MA as secondary drive SL or let the motherboard decide by using the option SC. Finally you have a 4 pin power plug, this is plugged into the cases power leads/plugs. Please note that the red stripe the drive cable should match with pin 1 on the motherboard connector and pin 1 on the back of the drive.
