How to build it! |
|
Open the case by unscrewing or
unclipping the sides depending on the type of case
your have purchased Take out the bag of screws and familiarize yourself with the cases bells and whistle and connectors. Unpack the motherboard, processor and memory. and lay the motherboard on top of the plastic sheet it was supplied in, Note where the screw holes on the motherboard match up inside the case and prepare those particular holes in the case ready to fit the motherboard. If the ATX motherboard hole positions for the keyboard, mouse and printer etc differ from the ones on the back case, remove and replace the template with the one that came with the motherboard. Please note that sometimes its quite awkward to fit the processor and fan after installing the motherboard in to the case so I like to do this before fitting it. Check the motherboard manual to find out how the processor fits the motherboard. When you are happy fit the processor and the fan. Remember to also plug in the power for the fan on the motherboard, again check how to do this in the motherboard manual. Put the motherboard in the case, align it with case template and screw positions carefully, do not force anything and screw down the motherboard firmly. Now lay your case down flat so that you can access the motherboard and cables easily. Again check the motherboard manual to find out how to fit the memory. When you sure of what you are doing take hold of the memory stick and insert it in the correct position as specified in the manual for the motherboard. Attached to the power supply of the case is a thick chunky block, there is only one socket on the motherboard it will fit, if you are not sure consult the motherboard manual, when you are happy, check the direction of the plug and socket and plug it in. when you eventually turn the computer on this will supply power to the motherboard. |

If you have gone for a graphics
card rather than having onboard graphics built in to your motherboard
then you should plug this into your AGP slot. First remove the blanking plate from the rear of the case where the AGP graphics card will be sitting in the motherboard. then align the graphics card with the slot and then push down the graphics card firmly into place then finally screw it down with one of the screw provided. |
| Stand the case upright again and remove the blanking fascia from the front of the case to allow you to insert the drives, if under the fascia there is a metal plate you will need to remove this before you can fit the drive, |
|
Decide if the CD-ROM drive you are installing is
going to be a Master or Slave and set the jumpers accordingly. Slide the drive into the slot you made earlier when you removed the fascia, then using the screws provided screw the drive in place. Plug the drive cable into the socket on the motherboard and also the back of the CD-ROM drive, then plug in the power socket from the case to the CD-ROM drive, using the small thin cable that came with the CD-ROM drive, establish where on the motherboard the CD-ROM sound cable plugs into and plug it in, plug the other end of the cable into the back of the CD-ROM drive. |
|
Decide if the hard-drive you are installing is
going to be a Master or Slave and set the jumpers accordingly. Slide the drive into the slot inside the case, then using the screws provided screw the drive in place. Plug the drive cable into the socket on the motherboard and also the back of the hard-drive, then plug in the power socket from the case to the hard-drive. |
|
Slide the floppy drive into the slot inside the
case,
then using the screws provided screw the drive in place. Plug the drive cable into the socket on the motherboard and also the back of the floppy drive, then plug in the power socket from the case to the floppy drive. |
| Next we need to set the jumpers for the power LED the power switch, the hard-drive light and reset switch, and any external case options such as USB slots. You should reference your motherboard manual to set these options. Please note that when you turn the pc on and you test these functions and some don't work the change the polarity of the jumpers i.e. switch them round the other way and they will probably work. |
| You are now ready to close the case and power on the pc after this you will probable have to do some fault finding, I've never know a first time builder to get it spot on first time if at this point you do get really stuck then your can contact us and we will help you get up and running and also help you install the operating system. |
